Best Tacos in Dubai: The Complete Guide

Birria, al pastor, fish, carnitas, duck — every taco style worth eating in Dubai and exactly where to find it.

The taco has arrived properly in Dubai. Not the hard-shell-from-a-kit abomination of the 1990s, nor the generic Tex-Mex version that spent decades masquerading as Mexican food. We're talking about handmade corn tortillas pressed to order, braised beef birria served with bone-broth consommé for dipping, al pastor carved from a vertical spit with fresh pineapple, and carnitas slow-cooked in lard until they collapse into themselves. This guide covers every taco style worth eating in Dubai, who does it best, and what to order.

We've eaten a frankly irresponsible number of tacos in the name of research. These are our findings.

Taco Styles in Dubai: A Complete Guide

Understanding the different taco traditions helps you choose the right place for the right experience. Dubai now does impressive versions of most major styles.

Birria tacos Dubai consommé dipping
Birria

Birria Tacos

The king of the current taco moment. Slow-braised beef (or goat) folded into a corn tortilla, dipped in the cooking fat so it crisps on the griddle, served alongside a cup of rich bone-broth consommé for dunking. The cheese pull is mandatory. Messy, deeply savoury, and completely addictive.

Best in Dubai: Pachuca (JLT & DIFC) — housemade consommé, proper crisp tortilla, correct cheese.
Al pastor tacos Dubai pineapple spit
Al Pastor

Al Pastor Tacos

Marinated pork (achiote, dried chillies, spices) cooked on a vertical trompo spit, shaved thin, and served with fresh pineapple, white onion, and coriander on a small corn tortilla. The sweet-savoury-spice balance is miraculous. One of Mexico's greatest gifts to the world.

Best in Dubai: Pachuca for the trompo spit version; Maya for the elevated achiote-rubbed duck carnitas riff.
Fish tacos Dubai baja style
Fish Tacos

Baja-Style Fish Tacos

Originating from Baja California: battered or grilled fish in a warm corn tortilla with shredded cabbage, crema, pico de gallo, and a squeeze of lime. Light, bright, and ideal for Dubai's climate. The grilled fish version is cleaner; the battered version is more fun.

Best in Dubai: El Sur (Festival City) for the best fish taco in an upscale setting; La Tablita (Arabian Ranches) for great value.
Carnitas tacos Dubai pork
Carnitas

Carnitas Tacos

Pork slow-cooked in lard (or oil) until impossibly tender and falling apart, then crisped on the griddle for texture. One of Mexico's most traditional taco fillings. The ratio of crispy exterior to soft interior defines the quality. Good carnitas smell of orange, milk, and bay leaf — the classic braising aromatics.

Best in Dubai: Maya Modern Mexican Kitchen's duck carnitas taco — technically pork-free but the technique is flawless.
Carne asada tacos Dubai grilled beef
Carne Asada

Carne Asada Tacos

Grilled, thin-sliced beef — typically flank or skirt steak, marinated in citrus and spices — served in corn tortillas with guacamole, pico, and salsa. Simple and magnificent when the beef is good. The char from the grill is everything. Best eaten immediately while hot.

Best in Dubai: Barrio (Souk Al Bahar) does a smoked brisket taco in the same tradition — exceptional quality of beef.
Chicken tinga tacos Dubai
Chicken Tinga

Chicken Tinga Tacos

Shredded chicken braised in a chipotle and tomato sauce — smoky, mildly spicy, and deeply flavoured. One of the most widely available taco fillings across Dubai and often the best option at fast-casual spots where the authenticity of other fillings might be questionable.

Best in Dubai: Tortilla (JBR and Dubai Mall) — the chicken tinga is genuinely excellent and the best reason to visit.

Best Taco Venues in Dubai

Where to actually go. We've listed these in order of food quality for taco-specific experience.

Pachuca Dubai birria tacos JLT

Pachuca Mexican Food

JLT (Cluster Y) & DIFC · Mon–Sun 12pm–11pm

Dubai's best taco restaurant. Small counter-service operation, no reservations, expect a queue on busy nights. The birria tacos are made properly — consommé from the braise, fresh-pressed corn tortillas, Oaxacan cheese that pulls in ribbons. The al pastor is carved from a trompo spit. Get four tacos minimum for a meal. The agua de Jamaica (hibiscus water) is the best non-alcoholic accompaniment.

AED 30–55 per taco
Maya Modern Mexican Kitchen tacos Dubai

Maya Modern Mexican Kitchen & Bar

Le Royal Meridien, Dubai Marina · Daily 7pm–midnight (Thurs/Fri from 6pm)

The elevated taco experience. Maya's tacos arrive as starters in pairs, presented beautifully on hand-painted ceramic plates. The duck carnitas taco (AED 72 for a pair) uses confit duck thigh with achiote, crispy tortilla chips for texture, and a salsa verde that walks the knife-edge between heat and freshness. More expensive than Pachuca — but a different experience entirely. Book two weeks ahead at minimum.

AED 65–85 per pair (starter)
Tortilla fast casual tacos Dubai JBR

Tortilla

JBR Walk & Dubai Mall · Daily 11am–11pm (midnight at JBR)

Build-your-own taco (flour or corn tortilla, your choice of filling, salsa, toppings). The chicken tinga is the best filling by a distance, followed by the barbacoa beef. The corn tortilla holds together better but the flour is softer — your preference. Fresh guacamole is worth the AED 8 upgrade. Line moves fast. Great for post-beach fuel or a quick dinner before a JBR night out.

AED 25–45 per taco
El Sur tacos Dubai Festival City

El Sur

InterContinental Dubai Festival City · Daily 12pm–11.30pm

The best fish taco in Dubai lives here. El Sur's Baja-style fish taco (AED 68 for two) uses sustainably sourced white fish, fried to a perfect batter, with housemade chipotle mayo, pickled red cabbage, and a lime crema that ties everything together. The lamb barbacoa taco runs it close. The waterfront setting makes eating these tacos one of Dubai's more pleasurable outdoor experiences in the cooler months.

AED 55–75 per pair (starter)

Tacos by Budget

There's a perfect taco at every price point in Dubai — here's how to match your appetite to your wallet.

Under AED 50: Taco Bell or Tortilla. Fast, reliable, and the taco format is sound even if the authenticity isn't always there. Tortilla's chicken tinga is genuinely good at any price.

AED 50–100: Pachuca is the answer. This is peak taco value in Dubai. Three birria tacos and a horchata runs about AED 85 and you'll leave happier than you would from a AED 300 dinner at a lesser restaurant.

AED 100–200: El Sur for fish tacos in a beautiful setting, or the taco starters at Cactus Cantina with a round of margaritas.

AED 200+: Maya Modern Mexican Kitchen. The taco starters alone are worth the trip.
